Rosalie Fish is a track athlete of Native descent who faced a lot of adversity trying to participate in the sport she loved. The struggle to represent her Indigenous people is a big part of why she runs. She meets Jordan Marie Daniel, who embodies the same spirit and has done it for a longer time. Jordan’s presence in her life helps her find a balance between running for passion and the ones she represents.
“She was supportive and she gave me some tips and helped me sort out my emotions and how I was going to go about running for missing and murdered Indigenous women at my state meet,” Rosalie says (O’Neill, 2020).
The numbers show how Indigenous persons have a higher prevalence in terms of facing violence as opposed to non-Natives. It creates a toxic environment that pushes individuals in such a position to try and do more.
