FDA gets recommendation against Pfizer boosters for all
An outside group of experts rejected the White House’s plan to give Pfizer COVID-19 booster shots across all groups, and instead only recommended it for those aged 65 or older and for those with high health risks. The committee made the recommendation to the Food and Drug Administration, and they don’t have the final word. The FDA will make its own decision after consideration in the coming days.
Robert Durst found guilty of first-degree murder
Robert Durst, the infamous subject of the HBO series The Jinx, was found guilty of first-degree murder by a Los Angeles jury on Friday. Durst has been found guilty of murdering his best friend Susan Berman more than 20 years ago. He is accused of killing Berman in her Benedict Canyon home hours before she was supposed to talk to investigators about the mysterious disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst, who was last seen in 1982.
Algeria’s longest-serving president passes away
Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Algeria’s longest-serving president for 20 years, was reported dead on Friday by his country’s media. Bouteflika helped Algeria fight against French colonial rule in the 1950s. He “went into exile over corruption charges and then returned to help lead the nation out of civil war,” the New York Times said. He was 84.

Successful splash of Inspiration4 ends first tourist-run space mission
The SpaceX Inspiration4 mission splashed into the ocean off Florida’s coast on Saturday evening, marking the end of the first flight to Earth’s orbit flown entirely by tourists and non-astronauts. The whole trip spanned three days and it is billed as a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The goal was to raise $200 million, $160 million of which was raised by the time the space capsule returned to Earth. “Count me in for $50M,” Elon Musk then pledged in a tweet.
Digital streaming shone brightly at the Emmys
The Crown‘s Emmy Awards sweep in all four major categories on Sunday night cemented a shift in television entertainment where streaming rules the roost. They were Netflix’s first wins at such a high level. Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ and its lead actor Jason Sudeikis won their first Emmy’s for best comedy show and best comedy actor, respectively. HBO’s Mare of Easttown also won some Emmy honors.
