Pipeline failure slicks Orange County with oil
A pipeline leak off the coast of Orange County on Sunday morning and caused 126,000 gallons of oil to spill. It killed numerous dead fish and birds as they washed up on shore soon after. The oil slick is 13 square miles long and extended from Huntington Beach to Newport Beach. Officials are trying to clean it and the reason for the pipeline failure has not been confirmed yet.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte retires
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, the populist who is famous for his drug war that left thousands of people dead, announced on Saturday that he is retiring from politics. The populist politician will not be running for vice president in 2022. Duterte also made a similar claim just before running for his victorious 2016 presidential race. He hasn’t yet announced who his successor will be.
Gov. Newsom makes vaccine mandatory for Californian school children
California became the first state in the nation on Friday to have a sweeping vaccine mandate. Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that all school children will be required to get vaccinations next year. The mandate will go into effect once the Food and Drug Administration approves vaccines for children below 12 years old. The state could begin requiring vaccines for students in grades 7 to 12 from July 2022.

This week will reveal more telling stories of how the rich and powerful hide their wealth, thanks to the Pandora Papers investigation. More than 600 journalists in 117 countries examined files, documents, and photographs. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) got the data. BBC Panorama and the Guardian UK led the project. So far, the King of Jordan, Tony Blair and his wife, and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta are among those who have been named.
